The series finale of Doctor Who takes place tonight and expectations are high that it could be one of the finest episodes since the show made its comeback in 2005.
Head writer Steven Moffatt has already indicated that he expects the season closer to be a big hit and star Matt Smith, who as the title character found himself imprisoned last Saturday, suggested this week that fans of the show are in for a real treat.
“There’s an important character coming back, but I can’t say who,” he told viewers of ITV1′s This Morning. “But it is very significant – it’s a cracker!”
Plot details have been kept tightly under wraps, but the rumour mill has been in overdrive about the return of some famous faces.
One widely reported story is that old school Time Lord villain Omega will make an appearance, while there have been hints that David Tennant could even come back in the guise of the ‘Doctor Donna’ – whose personality was a mix between the eponymous hero and his sidekick played by Catherine Tate.
The end of the penultimate Doctor Who episode saw the Tardis explode, while Smith was locked in a box called the Pandorica by an alliance of series baddies.
I’m very excited to see the finale tonight – screencaptures etc will be added asap! Enjoy it guys!
Karen Gillan has claimed that her Doctor Who character Amy is “cooler” than she is.
The actress added that Amy is different from the Doctor’s other companions because she is prepared to argue with him.
“Amy is a lot cooler than me,” Gillan told The People. “She has a different walk from me. She struts. She’s bad.
“I do think she’s different from previous companions of the Doctor because she’s very equal to him. She doesn’t take his word as gospel and she’s always happy to challenge him. If he tells her to do something then she won’t necessarily do it. She might go off and do her own thing which can sometimes create a rift between the two of them.”
However, Gillan explained that Amy and the Doctor are close despite their arguments.
“They are best pals though and it’s a very up and down relationship because they are both very passionate people,” she said. “The Doctor is definitely an alpha male and Amy is an alpha female so when they meet, they combust.”
She added: “They have quite a turbulent relationship but it’s also really passionate and they care about each other. Amy can really hold her own against him. It’s a great relationship.”

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has confessed she shed tears reading the scripts for the finale of the series.
The actress, who plays the Doctor’s assistant Amy Pond, reckons fans will bawl too when they watch it.Describing what to expect from the two-parter, Karen said: “Both parts are very very different which is cool. Episode 12, the first part, is kind of quite action-packed and there are a few revelations in there and things, the story is slowly starting to make more and more sense and that’s quite satisfying I think.”
She went on: “And then for the second part, it’s… I cried a lot when I read it so hopefully people cry when they watch it because it is sad. Yeah, it’s emotional but uplifting and great.”
The actress, who has been a hit in the role, also confirmed she will be back for the Christmas special and for another series of the BBC drama.

Doctor Who actress, Karen Gillan has spilled out the details concerning this week’s penultimate episode.
Gillan, Amy Pond, in details gave explanation that The Pandorica Opens, which will see the Doctor, Matt Smith, receive an appalling word of warning, will mark his worst nightmare.
She further said that it starts with the Doctor saying that he would take Amy to the very first planet that has existed; however, when they reach the spot they find a message from River Song, Alex Kingston.
The message then as if rings alarm bells for the Doctor and after that they find River dressed exactly as Cleopatra.
There is more to it. The two episodes are actually frightening, and of course, it is mostly because there is the Doctor’s worst nightmare involved in the series.
The Pandorica Opens, which is the first part of the series closing moments, is set to be aired on Saturday at 6.45 p.m. on BBC One.
